A Certain Elephant is a series of images and text juxtaposed by Joshua Gross.

I started the comic because I had been reading webcomics and just gotten into graphic novels. During a weekend visiting my sister in Madison, I started searching for public domain images. I started searching for public domain graphics of animals, influenced by two of my favorite comics: Achewood and Dinosaur Comics.

I amassed a large collection of elephants and a few other animals, most of which I haven't used (yet). My favorite image was this one called Certain Elephant. I recreated it in Photoshop and started writing A Certain Elephant.

After much thought, I decided on February 18, 2009 to release everything on this site under a Creative Commons license. In short: you can copy, distribute, and modify everything on this webpage - including text, images, etc - for non-commercial purposes, provided you attribute me. If you want to use something on this page for commercial purposes, just ask me politely. The answer will probably be "yes".

In addition, I have high-res Photoshop files of every comic and every character. If you want them, just ask! I'll email them.
